Cooper Lee School of Creative Writing, Cultural Studies and Critical Theory
About
For the writer looking to develop their craft, learn more about literary practice, or simply looking for creative company within a literary setting, there are classes, workshops, lectures and reading groups available with you in mind.
For those more interested in learning and adopting cultural studies and critical theory, lectures and reading groups will explore a range of topics and ideas that are relevant to our understanding of the modern world.
More often than not, there will be an overlap between creative writing practice and theory and the study of culture and critical theory, and participants are welcome to get on board with all or, alternatively, just one area. This is because the overlap is not something that has been designed for a set curriculum, but is one that just is, being one of broader concern for us all. That overlap is capitalism and capitalist structures, and the effects had on our daily lives and life prospects in the restraints placed on our freedoms, the making of wars and enabling of genocides, and the immensity of damage done to the environment, amongst many other things.
Invites to workshops, a book club that culminates monthly in a close reading seminar on the chosen text, and free copies of Young Mancunians and The Existential Reader magazine (latter is published quarterly).
